I am an amateur writer. I seek to find patterns and demonstrate them through my writings in the hopes that others--and, indeed, I myself--can learn from them. With every new work, I try to ensure that every sentence, every line has a sense of intentionality to it (or, at least, more than the last); otherwise, what good is it? There is nothing I loathe more than randomness claiming to be art. Spontaneity may be interesting, at times even fascinating, but it will never rival works produced through an excruciatingly lengthy process in which every detail is well-thought-out. I pray that when reading my prose and poetry you will find that it has less in common with the former than the latter. If you would like to critique a work of mine, you can email me at mateorubiera@gmail.com.
"Why," you may be wondering, "is your site so grotesquely outdated?" Three reasons: (1) it's just about all I am capable of doing with my limited knowledge of web design, (2) it was free to make, and (3) I think there is something so charming about old-looking, disgusting, antiquated websites like these. They harken back to a time when the internet's webpages had much more character; a time when every site you stumbled upon was unafraid to flamboyantly harass you with loud, oftentimes garish colors that grasped your attention in an attempt to woo you over to their small corner of the internet. Maybe it's just me, but I feel as if the democratization of access to flashy web design software in recent years has resulted in an increasingly homogenous internet plagued by oversimplified, samey pages that lack any sense of intrigue. If you agree with me, I recommend checking out this site.
